Do you think the wisdom of Winston Churchill can inform us today?
Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister who guided Great Britain through the crisis of WWII. In the days leading up to Hitler’s invasion of Poland, Neville Chamberlain was Prime Minister and Churchill was not a part of the politically elite.
Chamberlain embarked on a very dangerous path attempting to appease Hitler. His weakness only emboldened the Nazis. Churchill was part of a small minority of politicians speaking out passionately against these policies.
When the disastrous results of appeasement became evident, the people turned to a voice of strength and wisdom; they turned to Churchill to lead them. More than any other single individual, he stemmed the tide of Nazi success and restored Europe.
Today we are led by a government much like Chamberlain’s and our voices seem drowned out by the political elites of our time. Now more than ever we need to heed the words of Winston Churchill, “Meanwhile, never flinch, never weary, never despair.”
