Who is the arbitrator of what is allowed in the public discourse?

Recently, when a major news reporter ventured to say that Tiger Woods might benefit from the redemption offered by the Christian faith adding that Woods’ Buddhist religion offers no such restorative path, he was thoroughly castigated for his politically incorrect comments.

Who decided that faith based comments were outside what is acceptable public discourse? When our culture spews vulgar language, promotes promiscuity, embraces violent and racist rap lyrics, encourages voyeurism in reality TV, how could the mere mention of Christ be so offsetting to people?

Could it be that any reminder of an absolute moral authority in the universe is so painful that any public mention is considered judgmental and therefore off limits?

Do not be intimidated by the political correctness police. What Woods, and the rest of us the need to hear is a little more of Christ and a lot less Oprah and Dr. Phil.
