Job Creation?
In Just a Thought, March 4th, 2010
Do you think the $1 trillion stimulus bill passed last year has successfully created jobs?
If you said no, you’re in good company. Only 6% of Americans believe the 1000 page bill establishing the presidential slush fund has succeeded in stimulating jobs, unless you’re in a government union.
You may remember that the bill was brought forward in the dark of night and
there was no time to read it let alone hold public hearings; it had to be passed immediately in order to keep unemployment at 8%.
The bill was presented as so urgent a need that any delay in its passage would be a disaster, and even though unemployment has since surged to 10%, the administration has only spent approximately 1/3 of the money appropriated and most economists would agree that very little of the more than $300 billion was spent on anything resembling job creation projects.
So, remind again me why passage was so urgent?
