The Death of Free Enterprise
In Just a Thought, April 24th, 2009
A strange thing happened on the road to socialism and massive government intervention in the free markets…nobody protested.
When the president fired Rick Wagoner, CEO of General Motors, there was very little protest…because GM took bailout money and the CEO made a good scapegoat.
When the president dictated who would sit on the new GM board of directors, no one objected…after all, GM was failing.
When the car czar told GM what models they could build and Chrysler who they could merge with to satisfy the president’s demands, few raised the alarm.
When Congress told Wall Street executives and bank presidents how much they could earn without becoming the target of punitive tax measures, many applauded.
Are you next?
Hitler tore Germany apart by dividing the society and only decimating one small segment at a time, gypsies, then Jews, then the church, then???…and those standing silently by never dreamed they would be next.

Regarding your allusion to Hitler, you may recall a quote from the Naval Station Rota Chapel bulletin in “Points to Ponder” attributed to Pastor Martin Niemoeller:
“In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.”
