Complacency And Complicity
In Just a Thought, December 23rd, 2008
Just how comfortable have we as Americans become?
It is a self evident truth that the more comfortable a people become, the less likely they are to “rock the boat”. That may be helpful in producing a stable society…but what if fundamental change is needed to affect a greater good?
If our comfort produces a complacency that turns a deaf ear to the cry for justice…or produces an unwillingness to risk our comfort to come to the aid of another, then we are as complicit in the injustice as if we perpetrated it ourselves.
Today the American political system is rife with corruption and greed. Yet, in our complacency we drift from election to election returning the same corrupt representatives to power. Thus, in the end we are complicit in the corruption.
It has been truly said, “In a democracy, we get the government that we deserve.”
