A Look Back
In Just a Thought, December 31st, 2008
Have you ever wished you could change something in your past?
This is the time of year we often pause for a moment and evaluate where we’ve been and what we’ve done the past 12 months. For some it will be a time of great joy…some family or career milestone…some great memories. For others it will be a time of sorrow…the loss of a loved one…of missed opportunities…of words we wish we could retrieve. An honest appraisal will always be mixed…some good…some not so good.
The truth is we all have looked in the rearview mirror at some time or another and wished we could have a “do over”. In golf it is called a mulligan. I’m sure an honest evaluation of the past year reinforces this truth.
But as we look back, our goal should not be to deny the failure nor to over glamorize the success, but to learn the lessons each have taught us.
We should value last year’s lessons, but it is never wise to move forward looking in the rearview mirror.
