Health Care Costs

Have you ever heard the saying, “everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room?”

The current debate in liberal circles in DC and the media concerning health care reform completely ignores the elephant in the room. Why, because the biggest lobby in America, the trial lawyers lobby has successfully diverted the discussion from the actual reasons for skyrocketing medical costs.

Fully 1/3 of all medical expenses can be traced to ambulance chasers and the resulting malpractice threat that doctors and hospitals face. Some of the cost is in “defensive” medicine…doctors ordering unneeded tests simply to protect themselves from frivolous suits. The rest is wrapped up in legal fees and malpractice insurance premiums.

Of course we need safeguards to protect the public from medical malpractice…but serious legal reform could significantly reduce health care costs.

A large percentage of our legislators are lawyers…are they are protecting their friends?

A.K. Griffin said, “If it weren’t for lawyers, we wouldn’t need lawyers.”

The goverment is telling us that they can run our health care more inexpensively than the private insurance companies can. The government currently runs two health insurance companies – Medicare and Medicaid. Why are they not using those numbers to prove that they can run health care a more efficient, less costly than private insurance? I may be going out on a limb, but I believe it is because the difference would be astonishing to the American public.
