A Random Congress

What is it that recommends our democracy to the rest of the world?

Our elections are open and mostly honest (Acorn activities excepted). We personify orderly and peaceful transition of power from one leader to the next…our system is a text book lesson in civics.

Problem: the quality and character of our elected officials. It seems that once elected, most quickly lose sight of the people they represent and in equally rapid fashion lose any semblance of common sense they may have once had.

The power of incumbency overwhelms almost all opposition during any given election cycle. Perhaps it is time to consider term limits for our Congressmen and Senators. Could forcing a regular turnover in Washington DC be worse than the current situation on Capitol Hill?

It seems that a large plurality of you think picking Congressmen and Senators at random from the phone book would yield better results than what we’re getting right now.
