<itunes:summary>\"Just a Thought\" is a one-minute broadcast by Retired Navy Captain Jim Kinney, bringing a thought-provoking perspective on current political news. The shrill whistle that launches each \"Just a Thought\" is actually a \"Bosun\'s\" pipe. On a Navy ship, when the Captain makes an announcement to the entire crew over the intercom, before he speaks, this shrill \"All Hands\" signal is heard throughout the ship. This alerts the crew to listen up. Just so, when you hear the whistle from your radio, listen up.</itunes:summary>

Do you know who your friends are?

President Clinton had a “friends” list called “FOB” (Friends of Bill) and he was known to give them a night in the Lincoln bedroom and other White House perks and people complained that he was treating the White House like a Motel 6.

It was good to be an FOB, but, if you can make our new president’s friends list, you’ve got it made, he’s taken this thing to a whole new level.

A close examination of the president’s use of his own personal slush fund (sometimes called the stimulus bill) reveals just how much it pays to be his friend. The spending of the federal money, supposedly to create jobs has gone almost exclusively to his friends and supporters.

Reports show that the money has been distributed not to the places of greatest need, but to counties and districts that voted for Obama in 2008.

Friends bought and paid for are better than no friends at all.

Our founding fathers did a magnificent job of framing our way of governance…but they never conceived of career politicians.

The idea that a man or woman would get elected, move to Washington, abandon the people back home and perpetuate himself in office through the power of his incumbency was completely foreign to them.

Today a significant portion of the corruption in DC can be traced to the culture on Capitol Hill that induces good men and women to compromise themselves for the privilege of remaining within the power structure. Their access to money and their name recognition make give them a virtual monopoly on their seats in Congress.

Maybe it is time to amend the Constitution to apply reasonable term limits to Senators and Representatives?

That is just what the progressives have done to Humana Insurance. After Humana sent a letter to its client base informing them that if the healthcare reform currently being considered in the Congress were to pass, they would see their benefits reduced, they were informed that they were under an investigation requested by the Senate.

AND, Humana was given a gag order and told not to communicate with their clients on this issue, they were even told what they could and could not post on their website.

This is a clear abridgement of the First Amendment and should stand as a stark warning to Main Street America of how the liberals view our constitutional rights if those rights get in the way of their progressive agenda.

I never thought the good old days would be the Clinton days, but for all his personal failures of character, led by a conservative Congress, he signed two consecutive balanced budgets, signed welfare reform, declared the era of big government was over and when he left office, we were projecting budget surpluses in the trillions.

A mere 9 years later, as a result of the deceitful, ravenous, power hungry, group in charge in DC…we are threatened with the government takeover of significant portions of our economy, spending 50% more than any previous administration in history, planning…yes planning… to run up a10 trillion dollar debt while destroying our economy with energy taxes and our healthcare system with government controls.

It is a difficult question because most of us owe a monetary debt to someone, a bank, credit card or auto companies. And as long as the debt has something to back it up, it is not immoral. But what of unsecured debt…debt with nothing but your promise to repay…and you do not currently have the capacity to repay it?

That is immoral…and that is exactly what this current administration is doing. Let me quote General Douglas MacArthur, architect of our victory in the Pacific in WWII and winner of the Medal of Honor, our country’s highest military award, “There can be no more monstrous an immortality than to pass on to our progeny an overwhelming burden of public debt extravagantly created to better our own conditions of life…with little or no thought to theirs.” Spoken 50 years ago…never more true.

What are the implications of the statement, “I am a citizen of the world”?

You may remember that Obama made that statement in a campaign rally to thousands of Germans in front of the Berlin Wall last year.

It means America must yield her sovereignty to accommodate the rest of the world. For example this administration has signaled its support for a new world currency to replace the US dollar. It means:

We should yield our leadership of the world’s economic summit (the G-20) to a collectivist approach to the management of the world’s financial and monetary policies.

The UN’s positions on world affairs should trump our own national interests.

The US Supreme Court should consider international law and world opinion when ruling on constitutional matters.

Growth stifling and overwhelmingly expensive international environmental laws should become the US standard.

It essentially means the socialist European Union should be our model. Welcome to Denmark.

He nominated to the National Security Council, Chas Freeman, an apologist for the Chinese communists and for corrupt Saudi government interests. The appointment will give him access the highest levels of national security intelligence. Did I mention he has made millions of dollars from these countries lobbying for them?

His first federal court nominee, David Hamilton is a former ACLU attorney and federal trial judge. In that capacity he ruled prayer using the name or title of Christ was a violation of the constitution…but prayers using the name of Allah were acceptable.

He was overturned…but now in nominated to sit on the court that ruled against his decision…what an Obama nation we are becoming!

Like most people you think big bonuses paid for with your tax dollars.

Instead, every time you hear AIG, I want you to think big government. The mess that is associated with the AIG bailout using tax payer’s dollars is the perfect example of how well the government in DC does things.

When they passed the trillion dollar stimulus bill, no one in Congress had even read it and buried in the fine print was the language which allowed for the AIG fiasco.

I cannot name a single government program that works as advertised. Social Security…bankrupt. Post Office…stand by for more rate hikes and less service…passenger train service…are you kidding me? Can you think of one?

So the next time…and every time your government wants to expand its reach into your everyday life and your pocketbook…just say, “No”!
